We are looking for an experienced and highly talented individual with a science or engineering background to make a significant contribution to the development and growth of a young, innovative company. You will work closely with the company’s Managing Director, Financial Director, Senior Engineer and Marketing Coordinator; playing a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the company. Bridge Biotechnology Ltd produces a novel technology that has the potential to make a significant and meaningful impact in reducing food spoilage and preventing disease outbreaks among the consumers of fresh fruit and vegetables. As Business Development Manager you will be a vital part of the team with a diverse range of responsibilities including; stakeholder engagement, product development, marketing, sales and managing projects.

The candidate must have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - needed for communicating with a wide range of people, both internally and externally
  • Ability to think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business
  • Ability to motivate themselves and have the confidence to start things from scratch under their own initiative
  • Enthusiasm to work with colleagues on designing, tailoring and testing the product portfolio to meet customer requirements
  • Ability to evaluate scientific concepts and present that information to different stakeholders often without a scientific background
  • Ability to manage the workload when running a number of internal and external projects simultaneously and have the ability to prioritise if required

Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy

Working closely with the company’s Managing Director and Financial Director to identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, products and business models

Embarking on both internal projects and projects with external stakeholders simultaneously in order to implement the company’s strategy objectives

Understanding the ongoing changes regarding Biocidal Products regulations, and what impact this could have in the future

Having a good knowledge of the company’s current IP standing and how that may affect strategy moving forwards

Relationship Management

Pitching and presenting the company’s technology and scientific concepts to different stakeholders

Being the first point of contact for prospective customers and working through the customer journey from prospect through to conversion.

Being the first point of contact for existing customers and working to maximise the post sales experience, maintaining and maximising the value of existing commercial relationships

Working closely with commercial, academic and support agency partners to develop and realise the company’s strategic goals

Having an awareness of the Scottish, UK and international funding ecosystem, and what funding streams could be relevant to the company achieving its strategic ambitions

Continuing to foster the company’s relationship with funding support agencies such as Scottish Enterprise, Zero Waste Scotland, Knowledge Transfer Network and Interface

Product Development

Working closely with the senior engineer to design, build, assemble and install the company’s products and additional auxiliary equipment

Collaborating with management and external parties to document the business, financial, market, scientific and technical justification for new product opportunities

Establishing pilot projects with commercial and academic partners to evaluate the scientific and commercial benefit of new product ideas and technologies

Creating and editing technical documents such as Operation Manuals

Taking responsibility for technical drawings and the Bill of Materials for the technology portfolio and keeping them up to date

Marketing & Sales

Working closely with the company’s Managing Director, Financial Director and Marketing Coordinator to develop the company’s Marketing Strategy

Continually having an excellent understanding of the fruit and vegetable processing market sector, and how the company’s technology can fit into the sector

Continually having an excellent understanding of direct competitors and competing technologies, and their strengths and weaknesses

Working with the Marketing Coordinator to produce different kinds of marketing content; ranging from short videos to written marketing literature

Applying for and leading the company in national and international competitions; developing the materials and delivering the pitches; thereby increasing the company’s profile

Travelling within the UK and internationally, visiting; existing clients, prospective clients, exhibitions and networking events, with occasional participation
